Great Expectations

UL Rowing Club have started an eight week training programme in conjunction with Castletroy College to introduce transition year students to the sport of rowing. The session involves an introduction lesson in the indoor rowing tank followed by some water spins. The students are also given a few sessions on the ergometer, with a 500m erg test at the end of the eight weeks. It is hoped that the programme will spark an interest in the sport and that they will join one of the many clubs in Limerick. Castletroy College already has close links with Castleconnell Boat Club and at the end of the training each student will be given contact details for the club in Castleconnell as well as the other rowing clubs in Limerick. more >>>

World Ergathlon Champs

The University of Limerick played host to the first ever World Ergathlon Championships on Sunday 31st January. An ergathlon is an endurance event comprising of running and erging. The competition is a great motivation for individual athletes but also acts as a team building event. And it is highly entertaining for the spectators. Pictured is Ronan Long who, inspired by his older brother taking part in the event decided to row his own 2k and picked up a winning teeshirt for his troubles. On hand to present the prizes were Paul OConnell of Munster rugby and Sean Casey of the Irish rowing squad. Many thanks to all Club members who helped organise the event and who took part in the competition. more >>>
